The tumble of roses and the heavy heads of hydrangeas signalled the midsummer, and with the lengthening days we welcomed the biannual Hope Ball. 2019's black-tie gala was held in a dream garden: the private grounds of The Old Rectory, Doynton,
kindly hosted by Mr and Mrs Humby.

A beautiful space divided into a series of garden rooms laid out in palettes of lilacs, crimsons and lime greens, the garden was a magical setting for the highlight of the Bath social calendar.

The Hope team, with the creative talents of the area organised a sublime night. The seasonal menu inspired by the fresh garden produce from The Old Rectory was presented by the award winning chefs at Eat Five Star. The three-course menu was paired with sommelier-selected wines from the finest vineyards to create a gorgeous medley of flavours to entice the senses.

The highlight of the evening was the carefully curated art auction featuring international stars such as Miriam Escofet, winner of the 2018 BP Portrait Award at the National Portrait Gallery, Bruce Munro and Richard Twose, and local talent including Nick Cudworth and Louise Holgate. In addition, 2019 offered several incredible art experiences, from a private box at the Royal Opera House to a master class with prize-winning artists.

The whimsical setting of the garden played stage to a series of performers and musicians throughout the night, each evoking the spectacle of the Georgian pleasure ground. With world-class entertainers, guests were transported to the perfect midsummer folly.

All proceeds from the night go towards the Royal United Hospital Cancer Care Campaign and the new building works. The Hope team thank the Hope community for a special night of celebration and generosity.
